T20 specialist Kieran Pollard has been appointed captain of the West Indies in limited overs cricket. Pollard will replace Jason Holder who will continue to lead the team in Test matches. The 32-year-old Pollard, who has not played 50-over cricket for more than three years, has accepted the new role. Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt made the official announcement in the presence of Pollard.
“I called Jason Holder yesterday morning and we talked about it,” Skerrit said at the press conference. He said, “He is very important and will still be our captain in red-ball cricket.” Holder will now challenge Pollard to make a place in the team and will use this opportunity to become a better cricketer. Pollard is the right person at the right time to take our limited-overs teams forward. ‘
