In Hyderabad, the Supreme Court has constituted a committee in the case of the four accused of rape and murder of Lady Doctor in an encounter by the police. Explain that two petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court demanding an inquiry against the police. A petition has demanded registration of an FIR against the policemen involved in the encounter. At the same time, the second petition has demanded compensation to the families of the four accused.

There are two sides to this action of the police. On one hand, while it is being appreciated, on the other hand it is also being criticized. Petitioner GS Mani has sought registration of an encounter as well as instructions to investigate the encounter conducted by a team of CBI, SIT, CID or any other state police officers.

The petition urged the apex court that an independent investigation agency should be directed as per the guidelines laid down in connection with the investigation of fake encounter (PUCL v. State of Maharashtra).
