A look into Real Madrids Champions League campaign

Zinedine Zidane’s side started their knockout stages by putting a stunning show against Paris saint Germain in the round of 16. Madrid won 5-2 on aggregate then overcame an upset against Juventus, advancing thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s last-gasp penalty. A semi-final first leg victory in Munich proved vital for Madrid as Real Madrid triumph to the final.

 

The underdogs

Liverpool had to come through a thrilling Champions League campaign with their first  round  starting against Hoffenheim and then beating Porto 5-0 in the first leg of the round of 16 tie. Liverpool thrashed Manchester city in an all English clash and then saw off Roma 7-6 on aggregate advancing to the UEFA Champions league final for the first time since 2007.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said his team will be “on fire” for the final

“You cannot be more experienced in this competition than Real Madrid.I think 80 per cent of their team played all these finals. They are four times in the last five years and still together. They are experienced, we are not, but we will be really on fire.” – Jurgen Klopp
